For many years, Santa Cruz County’s economy has thrived on small family operations in transportation, ranching, tourism and international businesses. More and more multi-national corporations in public safety, solar energy, manufacturing, agriculture, mining and transportation industries are locating in our region. Traditionally, on-the-job training was sufficient for our local workforce. However these new 21st century jobs require employees who possess technology, academic and professional skills.
At C-CREO Gear Up we know that the future of Santa Cruz County’s economic growth and prosperity is dependent on the readiness of the next generation. That’s why we’re preparing a students over the next 6 years for the jobs of today and the future. Our programs are getting the class of 2024 ready to master the Arizona Academic Standards so they are prepared to enter and succeed in their postsecondary education programs.

The U.S. Department of Education GEAR Up Program will significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

GOAL
Prepare the class of 2024 to master the Arizona Academic Standards and achieve the U.S. Department of Education Gear Up Program goal.
Objective 1
Increase the academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education of C-CREO Gear Up students.
OBJECTIVE 2
Increase high school graduation and postsecondary education participation rates.
OBJECTIVE 3
Increase C-CREO Gear Up students’ and their families’ knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation, and financing.
Building on knowledge and success of previous GEAR-UP grants, C-CREO Gear Up aims to build a robust career and college readiness ecosystem that will significantly contribute to our quality of life.

The benefits of earning a post-secondary degree or certificate are higher income, more healthcare benefits, better career opportunities, greater job security and personal development.
Higher education requires students to overcome one challenge after another, ranging from financial responsibilities to passing tests or completing projects. This is preparation for life.
Whatever educational path students choose to pursue, they’ll be better prepared to face an increasingly competitive job market and turn their post-secondary education into a winning proposition.
