PERSISTENCE

Students cultivate persistence and problem-solving skills, enabling them to take on challenges and handle tough situations.

What is Persistence

With fierce competition and a rapid pace of change, persistence is critical to survival and growth today. But, what does it mean to be resilient and how can students support a resilient attitude?

First, it’s good to know that persistence is the ability to bounce back from tough circumstances. Persistence is that quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever. Rather than letting failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to rise from the ashes.

Bouncing back is what we do when we face disappointment, defeat, and failure. Instead of giving up or letting things keep us down, we get back up and continue on with our lives.

OVER THE COURSE OF A LIFETIME, THE AVERAGE WORKER WITH A BACHELOR’S DEGREE WILL EARN APPROXIMATELY $1 MILLION MORE THAN A WORKER WITHOUT A POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Latino students face even greater obstacles to college attainment than previously expected. Persistence training can be beneficial in working with families in order to improve expectations, educating them on the value of early college and career planning.

C-CREO Gear Up works with LEADLOCAL Youth Leadership Institute to prepare Latino youth in Santa Cruz County to become more resilient. All students are accepted and programs are age specific.
