COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING

Students develop a personalized educational college and career academic roadmap, leading to a high-quality education that meets their unique needs.

What is College & Career Planning

Having a career goal can help students focus more clearly on possibilities that are available.  A college and career goal can be a specific job, such as doctor or teacher, or be a particular field, such as medicine or education.

Rather than limiting the future, a career goal helps students discover career possibilities that they may not have thought of otherwise. There are several job possibilities with any chosen career. For instance, if you choose a medical career, you may want to be a scientist, a nurse, or a doctor.

C-CREO Gear Up guides each student in developing an Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP). Students explore in order to determine the foundational training they will need to prepare for the careers they are interested in for their future.

INDIVIDUALS WITH COLLEGE DEGREES HAVE A LOWER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE THAN THOSE WITH ONLY A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND ARE MORE LIKELY TO VIEW THEIR WORK AS IMPORTANT.

HOW DOES IT WORK

In the initial planning stages, stakeholders and schools were assessed, leading to extensive planning sessions identifying key strategies to be developed in the program. The Gear Up team monitors students as they progress from 7th through 12th grades and for an additional year beyond graduation. Additional support is provided for students, teachers and parents based on identified needs.

Students in the cohort can also participate in the Gear Up Leadership Club. The club is designed to expand student horizons by inspiring and motivating them with specialized activities and project-based events. Participation in the club also supports their college and career preparation and success.
